Fascial Kinetics – 2009 Course Outline

Bowen Therapy 1 (BT1)
When assessed as competent in BT 1, 2 and 3, and all distance education units, students will graduate with a practitioner level qualification in the healthcare industry. This is the exit level for the Certificate IV in Bowen Therapy.
Teacher contact – 4 day workshop:
The Bowen procedures are learnt through demonstration, discussion and application. The practical component is supported by essential theory incorporating an understanding of how Bowen Therapy works, history, healing philosophy, guidelines for use, clinical procedure and basic fascial anatomy.
All teaching is supported by a comprehensive student manual. Healing philosophies of the different modalities are examined.

Outcome:
At the end of BT 1 you will be able to, with some confidence, use the technique within a restricted scope of practice to give basic treatments.

Bowen Therapy 2 (BT2)
Teacher contact – 4 day workshop:
Additional Bowen procedures are learnt through demonstration, discussion and application. All the procedures are practised, and students are taught to put together a basic body balance sequencer and basic treatment plans, with clients in a variety of lying and seated positions. The final day covers an important module on client assessment and treatment protocol (SOAP charting). Both theory and practical are supported by a unit on the art of listening and awareness in healing, which forms the basis of the Fascial Kinetics philosophy.

Outcome:
At the end of BT 2 you will be able to, with confidence, use the technique within a basic scope of practice to give complete treatments for simple health problems.

Bowen Therapy 3 (BT3)
Teacher contact – 4 day workshop:
This workshop focuses on teaching the skills and knowledge required to allow registration as a Bowen Therapy practitioner, and to confidently set up a clinical practice within government and professional health care guidelines. The subjects taught are clinic procedure, practice management, research methods, counselling and communication, ethics and healing philosophy. Fascial anatomy is explored in depth to give a greater understanding of how the procedures impact on key structures of the body. Treatment plans and case scenarios are practised in a simulated clinic environment.

Outcome:
At the successful completion of BT 3 you will be able to use Fascial Kinetics within an expanded scope of practice at practitioner level, incorporating client assessment skills and deeper understanding of the technique, to address a wider range of health problems.

Final Outcome

Bowen Therapy 4 (BT4)
When assessed as competent in BT 4 and 5, and all distance education units, students will qualify for a Diploma of Bowen Therapy.
Teacher contact – 4 day workshop:
The Bowen Therapy procedures are revised and fascial anatomy is investigated in greater depth to give a deeper understanding of how each move in each procedure impacts on key fascial, muscle, nerve, circulatory and lymphatic structures. Scope of practice is expanded by exploring the disease process and how to use tissue salts to address a wider range of complex health problems. The healing philosophy of each individual practitioner is developed and expanded. Finally, the legal and professional aspects of managing a practice are examined in more detail, and the key aspects of preparing a business plan are taught.

Bowen Therapy 5 (BT5)
Teacher contact – 4 day workshop:
BT 5 focuses on complex skills and understanding to extend the practitioner’s scope of practice to therapist level. Advanced client assessment and treatment planning skills are taught, with special focus on injury management and clinical pathology. The link between Bowen Therapy and Traditional Chinese medicine is explored in depth to explain how the therapy works on a deeper level and to further broaden assessment skills. The healing philosophy of each practitioner continues to be developed and expanded, and shared with other practitioners.

Final Outcome:
By the end of BT 5, you will be able to use Fascial Kinetics within an expanded scope of practice to give treatments for complex and dysfunctional health states using advanced client assessment skills and with a greater understanding of the health and disease processes.

When assessed as competent in BT 4 and 5, and all distance education units, students will qualify for a Diploma of Bowen Therapy and be eligible to work at therapist level in the healthcare industry. In addition to a Diploma level qualification, 500 treatment hours must be logged to be eligible to join the professional association at therapist level.
